Work From Anywhere August: What Happened When an In-Office Agency Let its Team Go Global‍

At SolComms, we've always been proud of our in-person culture. Since launching in April 2023, our team has worked in-office four days a week, even as the rest of the industry moved toward hybrid and remote. We believe some of our best ideas happen across a desk, over coffee, or in a spontaneous brainstorm that no calendar invite could have scheduled.

So this summer, we did something that surprised even ourselves. We handed our entire team a passport-sized challenge: work from anywhere for the month of August.

Introducing Work From Anywhere August

The idea was simple. For one month, every SolComms staffer could clock in from wherever they wanted. And they took us up on it. Our team logged on from across Europe, cities throughout the U.S., South America, and beyond, all while continuing to service our 80+ clients across healthcare, tech and AI, and consumer brands.

With a team made up entirely of Gen Z and Millennial professionals, we knew flexibility mattered to our people. We wanted to know whether that flexibility could coexist with the pace and quality our clients expect from us.

The answer? A resounding yes!

The Business Results

The numbers spoke for themselves. SolComms saw a 12 percent revenue increase from August to September. Our clients didn't just stay on track while our team was scattered across time zones; our business grew.

What Our Team Had to Say

We didn't want to rely on gut feeling alone, so we surveyed our 53 employees about their experience. Here's what they told us.

76 percent said their productivity increased. Without the usual office commute, many found they could move through their work faster and with more focus.

1 in 3 pointed to fewer interruptions. Stepping away from the office gave people the space to lock in on deep work.

52 percent built new skills. Team members reported experimenting with AI tools to work smarter, sharpening how they communicate internally, and learning to self-manage in new ways.

90 percent reported a better work-life balance. Exploring a new city after logging off is a great way to recharge.

What We Learned

Work From Anywhere August reminded us that culture isn't only built in a physical space. It's built on trust. When we gave our team the freedom to choose where they worked, they rewarded us with focus, growth, and results.

We still love our time together in the office, and that isn't changing. But this experiment showed us that a little freedom can go a long way, for our people and for our business.
